Fantasy Econometrics

Draft value, measured.

A fantasy football draft board that ranks players by what a pick is actually worth — not by how many points he scores. Those are different questions, and the difference decides drafts.

A kicker scores about as many points as a mid-tier receiver. He is worth nothing, because half the league's kickers sit on waivers at all times and you can start the best one every week for free. A board sorted by points puts him in round five.

What it does

Measured, not asserted

Every constant in the engine was estimated from historical data and is stated with its uncertainty. Where an effect could not be separated from zero, the app does not claim it.

The schedule screen tells you a whole season of strength of schedule is worth about one point — because that is what seven seasons of data say, and rounding it up would be a lie.
